Year 6 Outline Plan of Work Sept / Oct 2007

Literacy:

Sentence construction and correct punctuation.  Spelling and handwriting.  Study a range of fiction - (classic, poetry and drama) and non-fiction (autobiography, diaries, letters, anecdotes).

 

Numeracy:

Counting, partitioning and calcutlating, securing number facts and understanding shape.

 

Science:

Interdependence and Adaptation - how plants and animals in different habitats depend on each other and their environments.

 

History:

Comparisons of Ancient and Modern Greece.  The legacy of Ancient Greece.  Exploring sources of information.  A study of Sparta and Athens as city states.

 

Geography:

Isle of Wight school visit.  Preparation and follow up work to include travel, mapwork and coastal erosion.

 

Technology:

 

Shelters and structures including methods of reinforcing and strengthening.

 

Music:

Standard musical notation including technical terms.  Time signatures.  Ostinati and accompaniments.  Expressing mood and atmosphere through music.

 

P.E:

Gymnastics: travelling, shape, sequences, partner work

Games: developing large ball games.

 

Art:

 

Observing, sketching and painting landscapes.  Greek art and geometric patterns.

 

R.E:

Studying holy writings from the major world religions.

 

I.C.T:

Internet familiarisation to be linked with history and Literacy.  At Kingswood: digital cameras, cut and paste, collecting data and presenting it as a graph, control technology etc.

 

P.S.H.E:

Personal development and growing independence.

French:

Introducing yourself, classroom commands, colours, numbers 1-6.

 

Homework:

Literacy worksheets every week.  Given on Monday to be in on Thursday.

Numeracy set on Thursday to be in on Tuesday.

Other pieces of work as required.

Tables - varies with Numeracy group.  Some children are not tested regularly.  Spellings in a new testing format.

 

Please check your child's homework diary regularly and sign it at the end of each week.

 

Notes:

P.E. kit indoor - Wednesday

Games - Tuesday.  Shin pads and long socks needed for football.  Kit should be in school every day please

 

Art activities - please keep an old shirt or apron in school at all times.
