Year 4 Outline Plan of Work Sept / Oct 2007

Literacy:

Persuasive writing - manifestos for School Council.  Describing the appearance and personality of characters.  Report writing - how it is different from a story.  Planning a story  - beginning, climax and resolution.  Historical stories.  Developing spelling strategies, commas, verb endings and irregular past tense.

 

Numeracy:

Counting, partitioning and calculating, securing number facts and understanding shape.

 

Science:

Liquids and solids:  Properties, dissolving, mixing, separating.

History:

The Tudor Monarchs, in particular Henry VII and Henry VIII.  The wives of Henry VIII (why did he marry 6 times?).  Religion and dissolution of the monasteries.  Tudor project - Elizabeth I.

 

Geography:

What are the reasons for places being mentioned in the news?  Where are these places?  News reports on local/national/international items.  Exploring the school environment.  Rubbish and the environment.  Noise issues.

 

Technology:

Class 4

Money containers - looking at designing and making a money container.

 

Music:

Depicting animals through music.  Composing accompaniments using tuned percussion.  Phrasing and expression in music.  Singing in parts.

 

P.E:

Gymnastics: Floor and apparatus work involving rocking and rolling movements.

Games:  Net and wall games.

 

Art:

Class 3

Journey: Investigating maps and representing a journey pictorially.  Observational drawing.

 

R.E:

Winter festivals, in particular Harvest.

I.C.T:

Word processing, keyboards skills, writing for different purposes.  It across the curriculum.

 

P.S.H.E:

Personal development: Different feelings and how they change.  Sensitivity to others.  Developing opinions about everyday issues.  Self esteem.  Dealing with 'New Beginnings'.

 

French:

Introducing yourself, classroom commands, colours, numbers 1-6.

 

Homework:

Numeracy - Friday to be handed in the following Wednesday.

Literacy - Friday to be handed in the following Wednesday.

On occasions a piece of work will be set from another subject.

Daily reading - (Mon-Fri) minimum 10 mins.  Recorded in Homework Diary.

 

Please check your child's homework diary regularly and sign it at the end of each week. Weekly spelling and times tables tests.

 

Notes:

P.E./ Games Kit:  Both classes - Monday and Wednesday.

Art overall:   Thursday.
