Year 3 Outline Plan of Work Sept/Oct 2007

Literacy:

Capital letters and full stops.  Verbs and adding 'ing'.  Alphabet reinforcement and dictionary work.  Vowels and vowel blends e.g. ee ea.

Creative writing - to develop the use of settings in stories:

-          to use dialogue

-          poetry

 

Numeracy:

Recognition of 2, 3 and 4 digit numbers.  Place value e.g. 482 - what is the value of 8?  Number bonds to 20 and beyond.  Addition and subtraction - time & length, angles, 3D & 2D shape, symmetry.

 

Science:

Teeth and Healthy Eating.

Teeth - a study of teeth and types of food

Healthy eating - what constitutes a healthy diet.

 

Geography:

Simple plans and large scale maps of our school and its local area.  Fieldwork in the grounds and around Crowthorne.

 

Technology:

Select and prepare a range of ingredients to create an appealing cereal.  Investigate and evaluate a range of commercially made cereal packaging in order to create their own.  Design a sandwich suitable for sale in shops.

 

Music:

Distinguishing pulse and rhythm.

Pitch - soh, me, lah

Melodic phrases

4 - beat rhythm using ,♫.

Ostinati to accompany songs.

 

P.E:

Use of mats and large apparatus

Invasion games

Team building games

 

Art:

Developing group portraits. Sewing.

R.E:

Explore the symbolic use of signs and symbols and be able to understand their intended meaning.

 

I.C.T:

Word processing e.g. saving and printing and cross curricular activities, changing fonts.

 

P.S.H.E:

New beginnings.  Settling into Oaklands Junior School.

French:

Introducing yourself , classroom commands, colours, numbers 1-6.

Homework:

Weekly spellings.  There will also be two other tasks from other areas of the curriculum.  Reading daily (Reading books to be taken home but must be in school every day with Homework Diary).

 

Please check your child's homework diary regularly and sign it at the end of each week.

 

Notes:

Spelling Test::      Monday

P.E./ Games Kit:  All week please.

Art/Technology:   Overalls (old shirt) to be brought in and kept in school.

We would welcome help on Monday mornings 9-10.30 am for guided reading and Wednesday afternoons for sewing.
