Mathematics

  • Read the time on an analogue and 12 hour digital clock.

     

  • Find simple fractions of shapes and numbers.

     

  • Investigate number patterns.

     

  • Mental and written strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

     

  • Doubling and halving numbers and sets of objects.

     

  • Solve mathematical word problems involving money.

Literacy

·            Authors and Letters – Researching the work of the author Dick King-Smith.  Investigating the key features of letter writing leading to children writing a letter to an author of their choice.

 

 

·            Myths and legends – Reading a range of traditional tales, myths and fables. Identifying key features of this genre. Planning and writing own quest myths.

 

·            Report writing and note taking – Exploring non-fiction texts.  Learning how to make notes based on a range of media (books, films, web-sites, etc).  Plan an oral presentation on a given subject. 

 

·            Shape Poetry – Exploring shape poetry and calligrams.  Writing own shape poems based on a range of themes.

 

·            Learning spelling rules and investigating patterns through games and ICT activities.

 

·            Guided Reading sessions every Friday.

 

Science 

·            Materials – properties and uses of materials, testing absorbency and stretchiness.

 

·            Rocks and Soils – properties and uses of different rocks, testing hardness and permeability of rocks, separating soils.

 

·            Planning and carrying out investigations. Making observations, gathering and interpreting results, and presenting these in graphs. 

 

Geography  

·            Weather around the world – monitoring and recording the weather in our locality, and investigating climates in other countries around the world. Developing map reading skills through using atlases and keys. 

 

History

School PE kit should be available on all days of the week.  They need to be brought in on Monday and taken home to be washed on Friday.

  • Revision of colours, numbers, letters and common instructions and greetings.

     

  • The children will learn a variety of traditional French songs and stories, and also learn about life in France through looking at webcams, maps, films, etc.

     

 Homework

·            Numeracy/Literacy – Thursday to be handed in the following Thursday.

 

·            On occasions a piece of work will be set from another subject on a Tuesday for the following Tuesday.

 

·            Spelling words to be written in sentences in book provided weekly, tested Fridays.

 

·            Learning times tables for weekly test every Wednesday.

 

·            Daily reading – (Mon – Fri) minimum 10 mins. To be recorded in Homework Diary.  If your child reads 5 times at home over the course of a week they receive a housepoint; if they do this every week for half a term they will receive a merit.

 

·            History project based on the Romans – due in Monday 27th April 2009. Information about the project will be sent home nearer the start date for this project.

Please check your child’s homework diary daily and record every time you read with your child.  Please sign your child’s diary regularly to show you have seen it. If your child has any difficulty with their homework, please record this in their diary.
